Know The "Rules of The Road"
In the Borough of Hollidaysburg, Sections 3501 through 3511, of the Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Code, regulate the use and operation of all “pedalcycles” including bicycles, on any highway or pathway in the Commonwealth. Under these regulations; “Every person riding a pedalcycle upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this title…”.
All bicyclists, regardless of age, should become familiar with these regulations before riding a bicycle on any Borough street, alley, sidewalk or other public area. The regulations cover such items as:
- Helmet Requirements
- Number of Riders Permitted on a Bicycle
- Requirements for Traveling on The Roadway or Shoulder
- Lighting and Equipment Requirements
- Riding on Sidewalks
- Parking of Bicycles
- Prohibition of Bicycles on Freeways
If you should have any questions concerning these regulations, you may wish to contact the Hollidaysburg Police Department at (814) 695-3711.
